SAINSBURY’S OPENS ITS 100TH TRAVEL MONEY BUREAU IN HEMPSTEAD VALLEY
Sainsbury’s Chief Executive Justin King was in the Sainsbury’s store in Hempstead Valley today to open the 100th Sainsbury’s Travel Money Bureau and announce plans for further growth of the supermarket’s Travel Money Bureaux estate.
Sainsbury’s Hempstead Valley colleagues were delighted to see Justin open the bureaux, and Medway customers were excited to see the fantastic exchange rate deals available to them. It’s the first time that Kent’s biggest Sainsbury’s has had a Travel Money Bureau in-store, and Justin’s appearance helped to kick off the event in style.
To celebrate the opening, Sainsbury’s Finance is offering customers at the Hempstead Valley store the chance to win one of twenty iPod Shuffles by entering a prize draw at the Sainsbury's Travel Money Bureau. To be in with a chance of winning, customers should visit the bureau and pick up an entry form, returning it completed, by 7pm on Monday 10th May. Winners will be notified by 18th May.
The opening of the Hempstead Valley Travel Money bureau is part of what's been an ambitious expansion plan, with over 36 bureaux opening up and down the country in the last year, 26 since January alone. The supermarket bank today also announced plans to increase its Travel Money estate further, doubling its market share by 2013. A further 50 bureaux are planned over the next 24 months. Sainsbury's Finance reports being on plan to deliver a 200 per cent sales growth year on year for the business. It is estimated that the size of the bureau de change sector in the UK is around £10-15 billion*.
Justin King was accompanied by David Fisher, Chief Executive of Sainsbury’s Finance to open the Travel Money Bureau.
David Fisher, Chief Executive, Sainsbury’s Finance, said: “The expansion of our Travel Money estate is another important part of our plan to make life as convenient as possible for the Sainsbury’s shopper while rewarding them every time they go in store, fill up their car or shop online at Sainsbury’s.
"Our travel money is very competitive and commission free and shoppers can park at store for free** and pick up a wide range of currencies whilst doing their shopping.”
Justin King, Chief Executive of Sainsbury’s, said: “Sainsbury’s Finance is a key part of our focus to develop our complementary non-food business. Travel Money is a significant opportunity to improve service for our customers and accelerate the Bank’s growth".
Eddie Worth, Store Manager, Hempstead Valley Sainsbury’s, said: “We are delighted to be opening this new service in our store. As an out of town shopping centre location, we attract shoppers who want the convenience of being able to make food and non-food purchases in one place, and this will only strengthen our offering. Sainsbury’s Travel Money offers very competitive exchange rates and commission-free foreign currency so we are confident our shoppers will give the service a try before they head off on their summer holidays!”
Sainsbury’s Travel Money already awards Nectar points to Sainsbury’s customers in line with the supermarket bank's reward strategy which sees customers rewarded for holding selected Sainsbury's Finance products. The bank continues to look at ways to further strengthen the rewards on offer for Travel Money customers. The bank continually reviews the products and services it offers to ensure its customers are receiving market leading travel money services. Further integration with other travel services such as the potential sale of travel insurance is also being considered.
Sainsbury’s Travel Money is provided by Travelex and offers a range of benefits including competitive exchange rates, commission free foreign currency, travellers cheques and the Cash Passport prepaid currency card. Customers can buy their currency in selected Sainsbury’s stores up and down the county.
